THE 1ST EVER (!!!!) ALAMOSA FAT ASS 50K
    SUNDAY, NOV. 13 @ NOON
MEET AT THE PARKING LOT ON THE WEST SIDE OF STATE STREET JUST NORTH OF THE STATE STREET BRIDGE

Come one, come all, but very likely only one (me), this Sunday to the inaugural Alamosa Fat Ass 50k. Despite having totally hyped this event up (to a few non-runners I know in town as well as a few of the Adams State sprinters), I’m less than optimistic about anyone coming out and joining me for the whole shabang. A few, surpsingly, have indicated some interest in a lap or two, which would make me downright jubilant.

Although maybe I’ll lure a few more my way with this: The winner will receive a Subway $5 Footlong of their choice (make it a meal, even!), a growler of the beer of their choice from the SLV Brewing Co., and a long-sleeve Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference t-shirt (size large, white, non-technical).

How about that for some schwag, eh?

The race was concocted to a celebration of the end of the fall sports season and the SID-ly duties that come with it, the day after the final football game of the season on Nov. 12. What could really make this interesting is the celebratory events that could quite possibly take place on the night of the 12th, which is also why this event will start at Noon… well, because of what could happen the night before as well as the fact that by starting at noon water bottles may not become heavy, ice-filled projectiles too quickly.

My motivation to start this came after seeing that there were 2 or 3 Fat Ass 50k events going on in New Mexico on the same day, but I don’t feel like waking up early, driving 4-5 hours, most likely getting lost and driving around pissed for several hourse and spending money on gas…. so starting my own, poorly conceived Fat Ass 50k seemed like a far better option.

My only concern = boredom. Total ascent and descent on the course will be approximatley 30 feet (whoa!!), although that could easily be doubled or tripled should anyone choose to steeple some of the larger fallen trees on the course. The loop is a mix of well-groomed dirt, surprisingly less well-groomed asphalt, and a few feet of technica gravel, so look out for that.

The only critera is to complete nine loops, and there are no directional requirements. Though I’ll probably run a 3-3-3 combo, starting counter-clockwise, then clockwise, and finishing counter-clockwise.
